For 38 years, United Way of the Coastal Empire has recognized the contribution of volunteers in more than organizations covering four area counties. HandsOn Savannah, the volunteer arm of the United Way, helps people connect with volunteer opportunities to build community and meet critical needs.

This year, our Day Habilitation Program was recognized for its 18-year commitment to Meals On Wheels for its goal to “enrich the lives of Savannah’s seniors.” Day Habilitation has delivered Meals on Wheels since 1999, and our Community Access Groups have also begun participating. While we did not win an award, being nominated among the community’s other great volunteers was still an honor.

The first year the Day Habilitation participants started with Meals On Wheels, they won the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award in the group category for their efforts. Since that time, the number of CCDS individuals assisting with Meals on Wheels has grown to include some of the Community Access Groups as well. Each week, the people we serve get to serve others.

Showing no signs of slowing down, our group of Meals on Wheels is committed to continuing their efforts for years to come.
