Cory at Celebritees

October 2121

Our friend Cory is printing our new shirts at Celebritees through Supported Employment

Have you seen our new t-shirts? They’re so much fun! The back of the shirt features original artwork by local artist Panhandle Slim, created just for us, featuring Temple Grandin. The quote reads, “The world needs all kinds of minds.” The quote is so inspiring and perfectly represents our vision for an inclusive community.

Even better- they were printed by one of our very own Supported Employment participants working at a locally-owned small business, Celebritees. We love collaborating with local artists and businesses. When we wanted to print new t-shirts, we reached out to one of our favorite local printers. They were thrilled to hear from us.

“Employability is a great organization. We have an employee, Corey, that came to us from Employability. He puts a smile on my face every day.” – Meg, CEO of Celebritees.

He coats and tapes screens, and sometimes Cory catches at the end of the dryer. He is a dedicated worker who consistently raises office morale.

Cory’s mom says, “He wakes up so early to make sure he’s on time to work; I love his enthusiasm. I’m really glad he’s had this experience.”

We want more employers to know about Cory! Many employers in the U.S. are reluctant to hire workers with disabilities due to preconceived notions that they cannot perform the essential functions of the job. Aside from being equally capable of performing most jobs, workers with disabilities are committed, innovative, and boast equal or higher performance ratings.

Our Supported Employment services help individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities locate and maintain meaningful employment in our community. We provide continuing assistance for employers and employees to ensure a positive working relationship. Job Specialists work with everyone to identify preferences for employment, then act as liaisons for the duration of the job to sustain success.
