Feeling a sense of belonging is something everybody wants to experience, but it can be a challenge to find the right fit. Our friends with IDD are no different and are always looking for new ways to learn, engage in the community, and feel wanted and accepted.
Ten years ago, Ashley (a long-time EmployAbility program participant) attended a Special Pops event to encourage her sister to play tennis… but she didn’t stay on the sidelines for long. Today, Ashley is a seasoned athlete and one of Special Pops’ top tennis players! In addition to her tennis skills, she has grown as a person, too. Ashley has transformed from a shy, reluctant beginner to being a confident team leader both on court and at her workplace.
Together, EmployAbility and Special Pops Tennis are teaming up to create an environment to help adults with IDD grow their skills and natural supports through adaptive sports such as tennis and pickleball. EmployAbility offers the work environment, while Special Pops offers a recreational environment.
EmployAbility is proud to partner with Special Pops and see these hardworking athletes learn the value of commitment, creating lasting connections, being part of a team, and making new friends!
