The therapeutic power of Making Marks
Our participants were invited to collaborate on a new work of art inspired by artist Sonya Clark for the Telfair Museums annual “Making Marks” exhibition at the Jepson Center. Sonya Clark is known for artwork that celebrates modern craftspeople like hairdressers and notable African American figures, including activist Madam C.J. Walker and former President Barack Obama. Participants were inspired by the artist’s unique technique of using everyday items to create extraordinary art. They were imaginative and expressive: it was very freeing, and we learned a very cool new creative process along the way.
“The exhibition features works submitted by local residents of all ages and backgrounds, emphasizing the healing and transformative powers of art-making.” Making Marks is open through February 6 at the Jepson Center Museum and we are so proud to be a part of it.
