Jazzmine has always enjoyed being in the kitchen. Cooking and taking care of people have been constant themes in Jazzmine’s life, ever since her Grandmother starting teaching her how to navigate the kitchen at age 7. Because of her instinct to take care of others through her talents in the kitchen, she loves her job as a Chef’s Assistant at Candler Hospital.
For the past year and a half, she’s welcomed the chance to make sure that patients feel special.
“No one wants to be in the hospital, so I try to do what I can to make a better experience for them by making food that they will like to eat,” Jazzmine says, with a bright smile.
“It’s important to me that we try to make patients as comfortable as possible by giving them healthy food that tastes good, too.”
Her job coach, Teia, brags, “Jazzmine is a tremendous asset to the Candler team. Chef Ger truly appreciates her talents and depends on Jazzmine to do her job well, and Susan in HR is always telling me how Jazzmine brightens up every room she’s in with her smile and cheerful attitude!”
The Coronavirus has changed life at the hospital; she now works full-time instead of part-time, although she says that she’s happy to do what she can to help. Jazzmine notes that while “The virus is nothing to play with,” she’s “not nervous because we always wear gloves, and we wash our hands all of the time.” She notes that she and the entire kitchen team are incredibly careful and take every possible precaution.
When things get hectic, or she feels overwhelmed, Jazzmine says that she just focuses on the patients and makes sure that everything she makes is “Seasoned with love!”
