Change a life, change a community

For over a decade now, EmployAbility has collaborated with many local non-profits, including Meals on Wheels; Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia; Habitat for Humanity; Emmaus House; and Union Mission, as part of our Community Access Group. This program helps adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities bridge the gap between more traditional day services and integrated employment.

These collaborative, local, non-profit partnerships aim to more deeply connect adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to their community. Our partnerships empower our participants to build new skills, which help them be fully engaged members of our society while supporting other at-risk populations. The focus is to offer participants opportunities to succeed in an integrated setting and allow them a chance to share their abilities with the community. These collaborations also enable participants to connect with their neighbors as service providers rather than solely service recipients. Additionally, they help educate the community on the benefits of inclusive workplaces and demonstrate the valuable contributions adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities can make when given a chance.

The Day Habilitation program within the Enrichment Center serves individuals with the most significant disabilities, including cognitive and physical disabilities. The focus of the Day Habilitation program is socialization and enrichment. The activities offer innovative education, life-skills training opportunities, and engaging community-based experiences. The program also serves as respite care for families and caregivers, allowing them to work, go to school, and otherwise engage in daily living activities.

However, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, our ability to serve in the community has been limited. We are actively looking for new ways to involve our participants in the Savannah area. So, if you know of any engaging opportunities available, please send them to us! Email info@employabilityga.org or give us a call at 912-644-7500. We can’t wait to hear from you!
